The individual elements in my work are mementos that have been used up and discarded by our ever-growing consumerist society. I am drawn to the haunting nature of these objects long since abandoned: a hook someone once stored their keys upon, an old, discarded phone that once carried countless bits of good and bad news, jewelry someone wore hoping to impress a lover…. It is tremendously meaningful to me that the items I use in my mixed media constructions are reclaimed and revived after having been long left behind. Dismantling and repurposing in my studio gives new life to these curios once forgotten... creating imagery that is meaningful to us a collective whole.

As a child, I spent a significant amount of time in my grandmother’s house, sorting through her jewelry boxes and drawers, searching for “treasures”. These were some of the happiest and quietest moments of my childhood; peacefully meditative. After the passing of my mother in 2013, I was left with a plethora of accouterments from her beautifully stuffed artist’s studio. Shelves and cabinets filled to the brim in her studio with every kind of trim, charm, bead, button and trinket one could ever imagine. My mother was a sublime artist, who never had the opportunity to see her art career flourish. Every piece of my mixed media work is made of vintage, recycled and repurposed beads, hardware, jewelry and chains- many from my late mother’s collections. Keeping her with me on this journey is part of my daily practice, as I revisit the joy of my quiet, meditative dance in the studio.
